Tales from the Trail
May 19, 2012
We had a great run up the Blacktail/Wild Bill trail system yesterday. There were 5 rigs, with 10 people, on this outing. We met at the Jette store and drove to Lakeside. We caught the trailhead near the top of the road heading to the ski resort.
Spring time has arrived and everything was coming out of its winter hibernation. But still those who did not have lockers provided a few opportunities to contribute to the winch fund due to the last bit of snow.
We traveled part of the Skyliner’s maintained section and part of the Kalispell group’s section. I had not been down a large part of either run and so got to see some great terrain and play in the obstacles.
We had a Blazer in the group and it love-tapped both sides of its rear against trees in a couple of tight spots. The Suzuki, which had performed marvelously the whole day, had a weld break in its Lincoln locker and so it had to be hobbled down to end of the trail.
After many fun hours we decided it was time to call it a day and head home. Another good time logged in the beautiful outdoors. Hope to have you along with us the next time!
Welcome to the mountains and valleys of NW Montana!
Each month we schedule a trail ride exploring various roads and trails located in our area. We are an associate member, and adhere to the principles, of the Tread Lightly™ organization. We provide educational opportunities both in club meetings and on the trail. We also involve ourselves individually and collectively in public organizations and events.
Skyliners welcome you to come to our monthly meeting. It is held the first Tuesday of every month upstairs in the VFW building located on Main Street in Polson.
In 2006 we partnered with the United States Forest Service and adopted the Blacktail/WildBill National Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) trail. Through this partnership we work with the USFS to construct, maintain, and improve this trail system for OHV use. Our club's work on the trail was recognized by BFGoodrich when chosen as the 2008 Outstanding Trails Recipient. Read the press release at Offroad.com.
Donations are needed and graciously accepted. Your tax deductible contributions are used to rent equipment, supply fuel, trail signs, and other costs associated with the construction and yearly
maintenance of this trail. If you would like to help with the Blacktail/Wildbill National OHV project, please consider donating time and/or money. And come for a ride there with us!
